Rotarians For Fighting AIDS, Inc. (RFFA) launched the Orphan Rescue Initiative to provide African orphans daily nutrition and make it possible for them to stay in school by paying for school fees, supplies and uniforms. Only $450US a year provides a child daily nutritional support and an education by paying for school uniforms, supplies and fees.
ORPHANS IN AFRICA
It is estimated that by 2010 there will be over 25,000,000 orphans in Africa as parents die from AIDS. Millions of children are already without parents, without caregivers, without the chance to eat regularly and without the opportunity to go to school. Children are raising children with little or no help. Grandparents, especially grandmothers, are often the only caregivers left for their children’s children. Without the support offered through the Orphan Rescue program, thousands of African children will grow up not receiving what they need to change their existence: education and nutritional support.
AFRICAN NETWORK FOR CHILDREN ORPHANED AND AT RISK (ANCHOR)
Orphan Rescue is the offspring of the African Network for Children Orphaned and at Risk, ANCHOR, a strong and dynamic partnership of Rotarians for Fighting AIDS, HOPE worldwide, and the Emory University School of Public Health. ANCHOR is already up and running in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Ivory Coast, Kenya and Nigeria where it will help and educate the African families and communities in developing their own solutions to caring for unprecedented numbers of orphans. HOPE worldwide, the primary partner with RFFA, is recognized as a world leader for its Best Practices AIDS relief model.

WHICH CHILDREN ARE SUPPORTED?
Orphan Rescue supports children in communities where ANCHOR is operational. Orphaned and vulnerable children in communities in Nairobi, Kenya; Lagos, Nigeria, and sites throughout South Africa are currently in the program. Efforts are underway to expand the program to Ivory Coast, Zambia and Botswana with other African countries in the pipeline.
